The 24,900-acre Stockton Lake was created when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed a dam across the Sac River near Stockton in 1970.
Stockton Lake offers beautiful scenery with three hundred miles of unspoiled shoreline and 25,000 acres of clean clear water. This lake is the perfect place to kick back and relax. Fishing is great, Stockton has become one of the best walleye fishing lakes in the Midwest.
Stockton Lake is rated one of the top 10 sailing lakes in the United States. Steady breezes and open water make for great runs up and down the lake.
It has three marinas, and 10 public-use areas. It is surrounded by unspoiled, tree-covered hills. Its banks are owned and operated by the Army Corps of Engineers.
The clear waters of Stockton Lake offer visitors a great chance to water ski, scuba dive, swim, or fish. And Stockton State Park is the perfect place to do it. It’s a perfect place for sailing – with perpetual southwest breeze and a nationally recognized sailing school housed at the marina.
Two boat launches make it easy to get in the water, as does a swimming beach. Want to stay on land? The park is great for photographing wildlife, picnicking with the family, or just reveling in the beauty of southern Missouri.
Stockton Lake is one of Missouri’s seven major lakes, all man-made. It was formed by damming the Sac River near the city of Stockton in 1969. The lake is crossed by three state highways over a network of six bridges. A pipeline carries water from Stockton Lake to Fellows Lake in northern Greene County to help supplement water for the city of Springfield.
Stockton Lake features an equestrian trail that is approximately 15 miles long and travels in close proximity along the lake shore from Hawker Point to Orleans Trail Campgrounds. This is a multi use trail for Hikers and Mountain biking, there are no motorized vehicles allowed.
